COMARES
On the border between the Montes de Málaga and the westernmost area of the Axarquía, the municipality of Comares is located, which has been known for many years as the natural viewpoint of the region, thanks to its location on a peak that reaches the seven hundred meters. From there, a large part of the lands of the Axarquía are dominated, offering a wide landscape that goes from the mountains to the mountains and from the mountains to the sea.
The origins and dawn of Comares are confusing and although there is no doubt of its importance during centuries in Muslim times, it does not mean that they were the authors of the foundation, being able to go back even to the 7th century BC. when the Phocian Greeks reached the coasts of Malaga and Torre del Mar, applying the name of Komaron which means "land of Madroños". However, it was the Arabs who gave it its extremely unique appearance in its urban planning, its customs and its more accentuated identity by naming it with the term "Hisn Comarix", meaning castle in the heights.
